How To Boost a Child’s Immune System

## The main consideration The first and most important rule is that no method of improving immunity works by force. The immunity can be strengthened, but if the child is originally born weak, you should first normalize his or her condition, and only then think about how to develop good immunity. If the baby is strong and healthy, then the normal formation of healthy immunity only requires creating the conditions where the body itself will form a strong defense system to resist infectious diseases. ## The temperature in the house The optimal temperature in the room where the baby sleeps and plays is ===68–72 degrees Fahrenheit. At temperatures above this the body gets used to overheating, even if only slightly, and at the slightest cooling reacts to the development of respiratory infections. Do not wrap up the child. While he or she is lying in a stroller, dress the child as you would dress yourself plus one extra layer of clothing. As soon as the child starts walking, dress him or her as you would yourself. When he or she starts running, put on a layer lighter than you would for yourself. Your baby needs a hat whenever you need one. And remember: thermoregulation is very easy to break, but it's almost impossible to fix. If the baby is accustomed since childhood to the fact that it is normal when it is hot, he will grow up cold intolerant and become sick when feeling even slightly cool. It is much better if the child is accustomed to a slightly chilly temperature. > How do you check if a baby is too cold? The surest sign is his or her behavior. If he is cheerful and active, all is well. If he or she seems uncomfortable, it may be too cold. The second sign is the temperature of his or her feet and hands. Normally, hands and feet should be dry and slightly warm. ## Cleanliness and hygiene Don’t obsess over germs and your baby’s hygiene. A baby's immunity is formed in response to contact with various [infectious](https://ul.orna.me/KOge/librarydisease?id=7) agents, and unless your home is incredibly dirty, crawling on the floor, licking hands, or touching your cat is normal immunity training. You don't need to boil pacifiers, bottles, and cutlery — just wash them the same way you wash them for the rest of the family. Do not shield your child from everything in the world, as children that are kept away from germs get sick more severely than their peers who are not protected from contact with dirt and potential allergens. Make sure to wash your hands as often as possible. After contact with a sick person, you can also rinse your nose. ## Vitamins They can be helpful, but only if they are used in natural form: vegetables, fruits, fish, meat. The diet should be varied and, if possible, should not contain dyes, preservatives, and other "chemicals". ## Physical activity Parents should encourage any physical activity of the baby. Playing sports at home, running and riding a scooter or bike in the street, or playing with a ball — anything as long as the child gets movement. This can include the baby being engaged and pointing to objects in the surrounding area. ## 3 ways to harm your child’s immune system - Giving [vitamins](https://ul.orna.me/KOge/librarydisease?id=104) as you like without consulting a specialist. - Treating an illness with medications and antibiotics, not letting the immune system itself fight the disease. - Putting the child on any diet, if it is not prescribed by the doctor.
