10 Intimate Rules for Maintaining Vaginal Health

## Wear comfortable cotton underwear Cotton lets in the air and helps absorb moisture, keeping the vaginal area dry. Synthetic thongs that rub the vulva can lead to irritation and soreness, so save them for special occasions. In addition, they contribute to the entry of germs into the vagina. ## Avoid tight clothing If you work out regularly and wear tight leggings, try to choose breathable fabrics. Sweating in the vulval area can cause bacterial infections. ## Go to the bathroom after sex Urinating will help ===flush out the bacteria that appears there during intercourse. After urinating, wipe your vulva with tissue from the front to the back. This reduces the chance of infections entering the urinary tract and vagina. ## Use gels less often Frequent use of intimate feminine hygiene products can do more harm than good. They disrupt the pH balance of the vagina, which leads to infections. Products with pungent fragrances are especially harmful, as they can provoke thrush or bacterial vaginosis. Rinsing your vulva with warm water is all it takes to maintain a healthy vaginal microflora. ## Don't sprinkle without a doctor's prescription The vagina cleanses naturally and contains many beneficial bacteria that protect it and help maintain its pH balance. Vaginal discharge can vary in quantity and consistency throughout the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and menopause, depending on hormonal changes. When vaginal sponging or using scented wipes and deodorants, the healthy pH balance can be disturbed. ## Be careful with antibiotics Overuse of antibiotics can be detrimental to your vaginal health because they kill both good and bad bacteria, causing the yeast to grow and develop infections. ## Exercise Do Kegel exercises regularly — they aim to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles by contracting and relaxing them. In addition, this practice improves bladder and bowel function. Walking and running also improve pelvic floor tone — it is useful to combine them with Kegel exercises. ## Protect yourself During sex, bacteria and viruses can enter the vagina and reach the cervix. This can lead to sexually transmitted diseases. ## Use lubricant Lubricant will help reduce friction and prevent the vaginal epithelium from getting hurt and make intercourse more comfortable and enjoyable. Start by choosing fragrance-free lubes, and then, if there are no allergic reactions and discomfort, you can experiment with more exotic options. ## Change your hygiene products regularly During your period, remember to change your tampons, pads, or menstrual cups more often. This will keep harmful bacteria out of your vagina and maintain a normal pH balance. Insert tampons only with clean hands and never use sanitary products if you drop them on the floor.
