Mastopathy: What Should You Know?
The condition of mammary glands is always changing depending on age, state of the reproductive system, and the stage of the menstrual cycle. Even medical experts can be puzzled when trying to differentiate between normal physiological changes and impending problems.
In the case of mastopathy, theconnective tissue of the mammary gland is pathologically enlarging, which leads to the development of lumps, nodules and causes pain. Some of them are harmless. However, the presence of others increases the risk of cancer by 2.5 times.
## Don't miss the symptoms
All women should do monthly self-examination. While laying on your back, carefully palpate your breasts. ===Their tissues should be homogeneous, resilient, and free of any lumps and gaps. The following symptoms should be addressed:
- Chest pains that sometimes radiate to the back or arm
- Changes in the structure of breast tissue or the emergence of lumps
- Increase in the size of breasts
- Regular discomfort and feeling of heaviness
- Pain during palpation
- Any discharge from nipples
- Flaky or painful skin around nipples
- Development of ulcers and irritations
Those who are genetically predisposed or have endocrine system disorders, such as [diabetes](https://ul.orna.me/KOge/community?discussion=16053 "diabetes"), liver disorders, or diseases of the reproductive system as well as individuals who don't have a regular sex life, have had abortions, or are overweight should be particularly cautious. [Constant stress](https://ul.orna.me/KOge/community?discussion=16047 "stress") and lack of sleep also have a huge impact on the state of mammary glands.
## Consult a doctor
In case of any doubts, consult with a doctor annually. In urgent cases, you can visit the doctor on any day of your cycle. When planning a visit, schedule it for the 5–10th day after the start of your period.
Normally, doctors start the examination by palpation. If they have doubts, they send the patient for an ultrasound examination. You may also need mammography and MRI. Don't panic — most problems are not related to mammary gland cancer. But their symptoms often look similar, so that you need to have a check-up.
## How to continue living
So what can you do after you are diagnosed with mastopathy?
__First__, you should go through therapy, which depends on the stage of the disease. In the early stages, mastopathy is cured by medication. If the problem is not addressed earlier, you may need surgery. The doctor selects the method of treatment depending on accompanying conditions and results of medical tests.
__Second__, you need to change your way of life. Sunbathing, going to a sauna, and back and chest massage are not recommended. You should also avoid stress and staying up late at night.
__Third__, you should change your diet. Try eating fewer calories by cutting out quick carbohydrates (sugars, sweets, white bread). In some cases (depending on the causes of the diseases), it is advisable to reduce the intake of meat and animal fats. Also, it is recommended to drink less coffee and strong tea. The main aspect of the diet for mastopathy cases should be low-fat dairy products, seafood, vegetables, and fruits.
