15 Reasons To Check Your Thyroid Gland
Problems can occur in a person of any sex and age, but women over 40 need to be especially careful. It is recommended to include the thyroid-stimulating (TSH) test in the annual check-up, which is a simple yet extremely informative test.
There are many reasons for the development of thyroid pathologies: it could include iodine deficiency in the diet, unfavorable ecology, a genetic factor, or autoimmune disease with an unknown cause. If the thyroid gland produces too many hormones, hyperthyroidism will occur. On the contrary, if its activity decreases the presence of hormones, then it’s hypothyroidism.
The symptoms of these two conditions are completely different, but they all deserve ===close attention.
__1. Fatigue.__ If you get enough sleep but drowsiness still affects you, and even a little stress takes all your strength.
__2. Overactive.__ Unreasonable anxiety, sudden mood swings, inability to pull yourself together.
__3. Depression.__ It has been observed that up to a quarter of cases of depression are caused by a lack of essential hormones.
__4. Jumps in weight.__ You recovered but still cannot lose weight. You lost a lot of weight but have not changed your diet.
__5. High cholesterol.__ This cannot be reduced by diet and medication.
__6. Problems with the menstrual cycle in women.__ Irregular, painful menstruation and severe PMS.
__7. Frequent heart rate and high blood pressure.__ Another unobvious sign of a malfunctioning thyroid gland.
__8. Chills or fever.__ Note the unexplained increase or decrease in body temperature. Hyperthyroidism means temperature increases, whereas hypothyroidism means temperature decreases.
__9. Dry skin, brittle nails, hair loss.__ We often try to solve the problem with cosmetics and supplements, when we need to eliminate the root cause of the problems.
__10. Increased appetite and food flavor changes.__ The insufficiently active thyroid gland affects the olfactory and gustatory receptors.
__11. Digestive problems.__ You eat right and follow a daily routine, but often feel constipated and have diarrhea. This means the problem does not relate to the gastrointestinal tract.
__12. Sleep problems, distraction.__ Can't fall asleep or wake up several times a night? This is also a symptom. Indifference to sex and forgetfulness should also be alarming.
__13. High-necked clothing.__ High-necked clothing and turtleneck sweaters are annoying and make it difficult to breathe.
__14. Constant hoarseness and snoring.__ Even these can signal a problem.
__15. Hearing disorders.__ Few people pay attention to this. With a prolonged decrease in thyroid function, hearing is also affected.
Even if only one symptom occurs, it is a good enough reason to see a doctor. Remember that at the very beginning of the disease, the problem can be easily solved. An ongoing disease, on the other hand, can significantly worsen the quality of life.
