Should You Eat Fried Food?
## Why is it unhealthy?
__Reason #1:Greasy__
Pan frying uses oil, which increases the caloric value of the dish several times. For example, mashed potatoes are only 88 calories per 100 grams, but fried potatoes are 176 calories for the same quantity! Roast beef is quite lean at only 120 calories, but fried steak is almost 300 calories! In addition, even if you are not overweight, all these fats put a strain on the liver, pancreas, and gastrointestinal tract in general because they are much harder to digest. Plus, they cause cholesterol, atherosclerosis, and heart problems.
__Reason #2: Carcinogens__
Frying produces carcinogens. Even if you control the quality and quantity of your frying oil at home, in cafes and restaurants they use the same oil for hours to save money. This can cause carcinogens to form.
__Reason #3: Irritation of the taste buds__
Fried food tastes saltier and spicier than steamed or baked food. This pleases our taste buds but has the unpleasant effect of overstimulating our appetite. There are no global studies on the subject, but restaurant statistics show that if the meal began with a salty or spicy appetizer, people eat more than if they started with a salad or dishes without heavy spices and salt. But here it's not just about weight: later on, receptors that are used to spicy food become less sensitive, and non-fried food starts to be perceived as tasteless. This causes people to eat more and more unhealthy food because it tastes better when prepared this way.
## So should you eat fried food?
You can. Here are a few ways to minimize the harm from fried foods, although, even healthy adults are not advised to eat more than two such meals a week.
Buy a grill pan or ceramic-coated cookware.
Limit your cooking to light frying, and do not make the food crispy. Keep in mind the smoke temperature of the oil. For example, refined olive oil burns at 410 degrees F, sunflower oil at 400 degrees F, and butter at 350 degrees F. Compare that to the ghee: its combustion temperature is 485 degrees F.
It is better not to fry with refined oils at all. Do not pour oil on the frying pan: grease or sprinkle it on the product, and only then put it on the stove.
