A general blood test (CBC) is an important method of examination for most diseases, since changes occurring in peripheral blood reflect changes occurring in the whole body. It includes determining the concentration of hemoglobin, the number of red blood cells, leukocytes and platelets, the value of hematocrit and erythrocyte indices (MCV, RDW, MCH, MCHC), calculating the leukocyte formula (percentage of various types of leukocytes, such as neutrophils, lymphocytes, eosinophils, monocytes, basophils) and determining the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in peripheral blood.

The determination of the indicators of a general blood test makes it possible to diagnose conditions such as anemia/polycythemia, thrombocytopenia/thrombocytosis and leukopenia/leukocytosis, which can both be symptoms of a disease or act as independent pathologies.

Preparation for the study:

·It is recommended to donate blood for examination on an empty stomach (in the morning; for children - before the next feeding).

·At least 4 hours must elapse between the last meal and blood collection.

· Avoid strong drinks (coffee, strong tea, alcohol) on the eve of the test.
