Why Are Your Hands Shaking?
## What are tremors?
A tremor in the hand may not be cause for concern — if it happens to you only rarely and does not last more than half an hour, no additional measures should be taken. However, if the tremors happen consistently you should see your doctor as soon as possible. Tremors can be a sign of serious conditions and diseases
There are different types of tremors:
- Postural (occurs when holding the hands in the weight)
- Resting tremor (occurs only when the hands lie on a surface)
- Intensional (occurs at the end of a movement — for example, if you touch your finger with your nose).
## Nerves and more
With the problems listed below, all kinds of tremors can occur. To get rid of the tremor, you need to treat the underlying disease. You should start with a visit to your doctor. He or she will schedule tests to determine what specialist you should go to.
- Essential tremor is the most common and ===is almost always hereditary. Tremors in the hands, in this case, may be joined by a shaking of the head. This type of tremor is not dangerous, and full treatment does not exist — only a reduction of symptoms.
- When the cerebellum and cerebrum are affected the tremor is more often manifested by movement, which is especially intensified when bringing a finger to the nose. There are many diseases that cause this condition including strokes, multiple sclerosis, and tumors.
- When the hand tremor is caused by metabolic disorders, it most often appears during motor activity. The cause, in this case, maybe problems with the thyroid or parathyroid gland, liver, and kidneys, or Wilson’s disease.
- Parkinson's disease is most characterized by resting tremors.
- Psychogenic tremor is most often hysterical and manifests itself quite differently. It can also occur with severe fear and anxiety, but it is less pronounced.
- Polyneuropathy — the lesion of small nerves — can also provoke hand tremors.
- In alcohol intoxication and alcoholism, especially in people with low vitamin B levels, tremors are common.
