Doctors Respond to Myths About Detoxing
## Myth #1: Toxins are dangerous for your health
The first and most important: as soon as you see or hear the word "toxin," you should be skeptical. “Toxin” is a label often used by people who want to scare you into believing something.
## Myth #2: The body accumulates toxins invisibly
Any intoxication has specific manifestations, which results in specific effects on the person. In this case, go to the doctor, get tested, find the source of the toxins and solve the problem. Trying to "eliminate toxins" when you feel well is not a good idea.
## Myth #3: Toxins accumulate in the liver and kidneys
This is false — ===neither the liver nor the kidneys are capable of accumulating anything. This is likely a reference to the formation of stones in the [kidneys](https://ul.orna.me/KOge/librarydisease?id=75) or [gallbladder](https://ul.orna.me/KOge/librarydisease?id=76). However, stones are not toxins — they are deposits of salts, a sign of organ dysfunction. This is a manifestation of disease and requires treatment.
## Myth #4: The intestines can hold several pounds of toxic waste
Once again, this is a myth. Of course, the intestines contain "waste products," and in cases of digestive disorders, stagnation can form, constipation can cause intoxication, and even intestinal obstruction can occur. If the bowels are emptied regularly and painlessly, no toxic waste accumulates there.
## Myth #5: ”Detox drinks" help the body
This all depends on the composition of the drink. Some smoothies and juices are really useful as they contain vitamins, fiber, and important minerals. Another issue is that it has nothing to do with detox. But the special formulas, supplements, and unique compositions that are advertised by manufacturers can be made of unknown ingredients. At best, these are a waste of money — and they may even cause bigger issues than they claim to help solve.
## Myth #6: You can do home tests to detect toxins
Band-aids, baths, special liquid formulas, test strips...none of these methods will truly tell you the toxin level in your body. The darkening of the water or the appearance of stripes on the test is nothing more than a pre-planned chemical reaction. The only way to truly detect toxins is by seeing a medical professional.
## Myth #7: Detoxing helps you lose weight
There is only one way to lose weight and stay healthy: burn more calories than you get. It doesn't matter at all how much celery you eat and how much butter you eat. If you are burning more calories than you are eating you will lose weight, and if you are eating more calories than you are burning you will gain weight.
Of course, this does not apply to weight gain due to hormonal and other pathologies. Remember that in the case of pathologies, detox dieting is dangerous because it is important to have a balanced diet. Do not recklessly change the diet and replace some products with others. Instead, speak to a dietician or doctor about it.
