8 Tips for a Safe and Healthy Barbecue Party
## Make good choices
It is recommended to cook and eat meat or fish before the sell-by date. If you buy from the butcher, ask them where the animal was raised and what part of the animal a particular cut of meat came from. And keep in mind that mayonnaise-based salads are not the best options at barbecues because of their high fat and trans fats content.
## Grill it properly
Raw meat can contain pathogenic bacteria such as trichinella, toxoplasma, staphylococcus, salmonella, and listeria. ===If you don't grill meat properly, you can get infected with these bacteria. It should be noted that pork and chicken are the most dangerous. You should also remember that everything in contact with meat contains bacteria so that raw onions from the grill or the knife used to cut the meat are potentially dangerous. Fish, especially river fish, may be infected with parasites. Overcooked meat and fish contain carcinogens that are formed during the frying process. And the crust on the grilled meat is especially bad for your stomach.
## Drink enough water
You should avoid water from local rivers and ponds as it may also include viruses and bacteria. Take your water with you in bottles or thermal cups.
## Make your own marinade
You will be better off if you make a homemade marinade for meat or fish. Homemade marinade tastes better, has a softer texture, and is safer. Most often, store-bought marinade includes colorants, preservatives, and flavor enhancers. Additionally, store-bought marinades are not always fresh. You should also avoid sugar and sweet sauces when making the marinade.
## Avoid aluminum cookware
Aluminum cookware is the enemy of your marinade. It accumulates toxins (heavy metals) that are transferred to meat during cooking. Likewise, try to avoid grilling meat or fish in aluminum foil container.
## Limit alcohol consumption
Strong alcohol combined with fried and fatty foods is a double whammy to your liver and gastrointestinal tract. You would be better off sticking to dry wines. Ideally, you should also avoid sweet carbonated drinks and sugary juices.
## Wash vegetables
It is important to wash vegetables thoroughly before cooking, and it is not recommended to grill vegetables over a campfire. When cooked this way, they can transform from healthy foods into carcinogenic ones. Vegetables are better grilled on a grid (you can also grill it on wood).
## Enjoy your barbecue in moderation
Barbeques are often feasts. If you do it right, they can be very enjoyable. However, make sure you maintain healthy and safe food preparation and eating habits at barbecues. Those suffering from acute gastritis or stomach ulcers should skip the foods at barbecues that will likely cause problems.
